Other areas of interest within about 35 minutes drive include Whakapapa, New Zealand's largest ski field, the world famous Tongariro Alpine Crossing, the volcanoes of the Tongariro National Park, Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe and Tongariro,and to our south east, the Desert Road, Tukino Ski Field and the Kaimanawa Forest Park.
An hours drive south will take you to Ohakune and the Turoa Ski Field and to the west the Pureora forest Park.
